Anointing Baby Hedgehog!

OMGWTFBBQ! This is even cuter than the other babies I posted earlier this week (no offense other baby hedgehogs but  I think without the ability to read you are unlikely to find out about this slight.) This little alien guy is anointing himself with something he has picked up. I can't get over how cute and weird he looks. I can't not squee at this. I love that this moment was caught on film. This is a very, very young little one.

Hogs from Other Blogs - Hedgehogs Born in Restaurant

All I have is a headline and pictures from the Daily Mirror in the UK, but apparently some baby hedgehogs were born in a restaurant. I suppose the mama was looking for warmth and shelter to have her litter. Too bad there isn't more info... but we do have pictures!! Squee!

Dawn to Dusk

Hedgehogs are nocturnal. They wake just around dusk and are up and about until dawn. This means while you are sleeping they will discover the joy of konking their food and water dish together in a cacophony that will wake you with a start or just interfere with your dreams.

The best part of this is that while I am gone for the day she sleeps and when I am home she is awake and looking to play. Knowing that she would be awake when I was home was a big part of the decision. I didn't want a pet that needed to play in the day because I knew I would not be home.  Interaction is important for your hedgehogs physical and mental health so if you are out at night and only home in the day, this is not the right pet for you.

 

Hedgehog Awareness Week

It is Hedgehog Awareness Week but at the Hedgehog Manor every week is Hedgehog Awareness Week. I am aware that she needs fresh water when I am running late for work and that she must have playtime no matter how tired I am. I am aware that it is frustrating to trim her nails or to get an in focus picture.

But, I am also aware that she has the softest belly and the sweetest, most curious disposition. I am aware that she has a wet, snuffling nose that makes me giggle and a little tongue that licks you when you least expect it. However, I am most aware that she is the best part of my day and I don't know what I would do without her to come home to.
